BOBBY SANDS Bobby Sands was the parliamentary representative for Fermanagh and South Tyrone when he died in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh prison, on 5th May, 1981 after 66 days of hunger-strike. The very last words of his diary, dated Tuesday 17th March, 1981, read as follows: "If they aren’t able to destroy the desire for freedom, they won’t break you. They won’t break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show.
