MICHAEL SCANLAN Michael Scanlan was born in Limerick in 1834 and went to America as a young man. Eventually he became deeply involved in the Fenian movement. He wrote a great deal of patriotic verse. His ballads are among the best and most enduring to emerge from the Fenian era.
